Ford Motor Company is an American automobile manufacturer founded by Henry Ford in 1903. Since 1999, Ford has undertaken a path towards sustainability that has involved all corporate practices.

The Challenge

Ford has embarked on a journey towards a more sustainable, fair and inclusive future of mobility. The entire Business has been involved: from supply chains that are now transparent, sustainable and responsible, to merchandising, that is also attentive to the use of recycled materials.

Thanks to the mediation of cyber-Wear – a German company of reference for promotional items, merchandising and corporate fashion -, Ford found in Atlantis the perfect partner to convert its line of hats and caps into products entirely made with low-impact materials. We have decided to take part in this adventure.

The Journey

The most iconic Ford hats have been made with a sustainable look. How did we do it? Proceeding step by step as a real journey.

The first research and development phase, and perhaps most important, led us to study the already existing models and to ask ourselves how we could make caps “with a sustainable soul” while maintaining the “Ford” style.

We designed caps and hats using preferred materials such as Polylana®, cotton and recycled polyester.

Even for the structure and customizations we opted for low environmental impact techniques and accessories s uch as recycled buckram, woven labels made from sustainable yarns and recycled silicone patches. It was a stimulating, ambitious and rewarding journey, which led us to be nominated by PSI for the coveted “Innovator of the Year” award at the 2021 PSI Sustainability Awards.
